Sharh as-Sunnah by Imam al-Barbahaaree: A Classic Work on Islamic Creed

Sharh as-Sunnah (Explanation of the Creed) is a famous work by Imam Abu Muhammad al-Hasan bin Ali bin Khalaf al-Barbahaaree (d. 329H), a prominent scholar of the Hanbali school and a defender of the orthodox Sunni doctrine. The book is a concise exposition of the essential beliefs and practices of Islam, based on the Qur'an, the Sunnah and the understanding of the early generations of Muslims.

The book has been highly praised by many scholars for its clarity, accuracy and comprehensiveness. It covers topics such as the oneness of Allah, His names and attributes, His decree and predestination, the status and rights of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him), the companions, the successors, the sects and innovations, the signs of the Hour, and many other issues of creed and worship.

The book has been translated into several languages and has been explained by many scholars throughout history. One of the most beneficial explanations is that of Shaykh Dr. Saalih bin Fawzan bin Abdullah al-Fawzan (b. 1935), a member of the Council of Senior Scholars in Saudi Arabia and a renowned scholar of Aqidah and Fiqh. His commentary is based on evidences from the Qur'an and the Sunnah, as well as quotations from other classical works and scholars.

The explanation of Sharh as-Sunnah by Shaykh al-Fawzan is available in two volumes in Arabic and English. The English translation was done by Abdus-Sami Abdus salam and revised by Abu Asma Abdul Hakim Harun. The translation is faithful to the original text and includes footnotes and references for further study.
